Who was Jesus? I am not talking about his job, where he lived or the names of his friends. I want to know what was at the very center of his life. What or whom did he intentionally move toward with every action, thought or word. I want to know because I want to move in the same direction..
Jesus died. And his death did something unique. His death defeated the power of evil “once for all”. It was one action for the benefit of many. In the same way he moves toward God, he moves away from sin. The movement to sin and the movement toward God are always in opposition.
Yet Jesus lived. Death could not swallow up the Son of God. Death had no authority over him and because of his life it has no authority over us. Jesus’ life was identified by constant movement toward God. In humble submission he “did not consider equality with God something to be grasped”.
My question is who are you? I’m not talking about your job, where you live or the names of your friends. Rather, what is at the center of your life? Are you moving intentionally toward a life of following Christ? Please don’t get distracted. Our lives are too short for that nonsense. Let’s wake up today and seek Christ through reading, prayer and trusting humility. Let’s pray for our co-workers, our family and God’s kingdom come in part through our participation today.
Our Father,
Forgive me. I don’t always feel motivated to set my course toward you. Give me the spiritual nourishment I need for this today to make an impact for your kingdom. To you I want to move. Everyday. Today. For my family, for my friends and for this world.
